If you receive an error during the registration of a .it domain, you must correct the data and re-submit the registration from your WHMCS admin area as a domain reseller.
In this tutorial, we will show you how to fix errors you receive via email or in the WHMCS admin area. If you need to make changes instead, read this guide on how to modify the domain registrant.
Here’s how to do it.

Registering a .it domain requires these four additional fields:

Data validation
To ensure the registration of a .it domain is completed correctly, the entered data must be accurate. Among the validations, it is checked that the entity type and tax ID correspond to the requirements and that there are no inconsistencies.
Example 1: registering a domain in the name of an individual:
- In the tax ID field, enter the tax code.
- Select option 1 in the entity field: Italian and foreign individuals.
Example 2: registering a domain in the name of a company:
- Select option 2 in the entity field: Companies.
- In the tax ID field, enter the VAT number.
The WHMCS module created by SupportHost for domain resellers performs data validation to prevent errors:
- If the data is incorrect, an error message is shown.
- In case of errors, the domain remains in “pending” status and the error must be corrected to proceed with the registration.
The error is sent:
- via email (to the address used for your reseller account) if it is an automatic registration;
- in the admin area if you are performing a manual registration from WHMCS.
Fixing .it domain registration errors
If you see an error because the data does not match, you need to correct the data and manually re-register the domain via WHMCS.
By registering again, you can check if there are other errors or if the registration is successful. If everythign is fine you will see a success message.
Below are some of the most common errors.
Examples of errors in .it domain registration
Registrant: invalid reg code
When registering a domain, the contact information must match the tax code (codice fiscale).
For example:
- In registering a domain in the name of Mario Rossi, the tax ID field contains Filippo Bianchi’s tax code.
- You see the error “Registrant: invalid reg code” because the data does not match the tax code.
Solution:
You need to correct the data so that the name and tax code match. In our example, you can either:
- Register the domain to Mario Rossi, entering the correct tax code;
- Register the domain to Filippo Bianchi, with the corresponding tax code.
Postal information: invalid sp value
If the “Country” field is set to IT (Italy), the province must have the two-letter code corresponding to an Italian province.
If there is no match, the error “Postal information: invalid sp value” appears.
Solution:
- Correct the province field to a valid Italian province code.
